Nottingham Forest are not interested in cashing in on club-record signing Joao Carvalho after he was linked with a move to Olympiacos.

The two clubs are both owned by Evangelos Marinakis, meaning it has been common for deals to done between the pair in recent transfer windows, so when it was suggested Carvalho could make the move to the Greek giants last month, it did seem a possibility.

However, according to the Nottingham Post, the Reds have no intention of selling the former Benfica man and they claim that new boss Sabri Lamouchi has big plans for Carvalho next season as he looks to build a side capable of winning promotion.

The 22-year-old wasn't a favourite under Martin O'Neill, who regularly left the creative Portugal U21 international out, much to the frustration of the fans.

All in all, it was a frustrating first campaign in England for the player, who managed just four goals in 38 league games as Forest missed out on the play-offs.

Carvalho is currently injured after suffering an ankle ligament injury following a bad tackle in a friendly against Alfreton and should return in early August.

The Verdict

This is very good news for Forest fans as they recognise just how important Carvalho is to the team and what he can offer them moving forward.

Whilst his overall contribution in terms of goals and assists wasn't good enough last season, anyone who saw the side play will have seen how much talent he has.

So, after having a year to settle and understand the Championship, many will be hoping for the attacking midfielder to be a potential star next season.

Knowing he has support from the new manager will surely please Carvalho who will be focused on getting back to fitness now.
