It has been revealed that Luton Town are paying a sizeable percentage of Eunan O’Kane’s Leeds United wages.

Leeds set about clearing the decks of the course of the summer, with O’Kane amongst those deemed surplus to requirements by Marcelo Bielsa.

The midfielder was around for a lot of the summer, but on deadline day, he sealed a move down into League One, linking up with Nathan Jones’ Luton.

A report in the Yorkshire Evening Post has been looking at those that departed Elland Road over the summer, confirming that Luton are paying a sizeable percentage of O’Kane’s wages.

O’Kane had been at Elland Road for two seasons, with Garry Monk, Thomas Christiansen and Paul Heckingbottom all having the Irishman in their first-team plans.

However, Bielsa, who has trimmed the squad at Elland Road right down, didn’t see O’Kane featuring in his side, with the Argentinian sanctioning a move to Luton.

Luton have O’Kane on loan until January, with the midfielder already debuting for the Hatters.

The 28-year-old played just under half-an-hour in the League One clash with Wycombe last weekend, before starting the Checkatrade Trophy clash with Brighton’s under-21s during the week.

A knock forced O’Kane off during the first-half of that clash.

The Verdict

This will help Leeds out financially.

With so many players out on loan, Leeds will be paying a lot of wages, so Luton’s contribution with O’Kane is going to make a difference.

The move was one that made sense for all parties, but with Luton parting with significant cash, they will want to see an impact from the midfielder during his loan spell.
