Aston Villa winger Albert Adomah has no intention of leaving the Championship side and instead is focusing on winning a new contract under Dean Smith.

The 30-year-old winger had been linked with Leeds and former club Middlesbrough in recent weeks, whilst a move to Teesside fell through in the summer.

However, his agent Anthony Finnigan told Sport Witness that the player is happy at Villa Park and doesn’t want a move.

"I realise the speculation that comes during this [January] transfer window, but my aim is to discuss with the current manager at the right time about extending his contract and remain at the club."

Competition for places out wide is fierce at the West Midlands side, with Smith using Anwar El Ghazi, Yannick Bolasie, Ahmed Elmohamady and Jonathan Kodjia, along with Adomah, in the two positions since taking over.

Yet, Adomah has regularly featured, starting three of the four games under the new boss' reign, whilst he missed the other through injury.

Therefore, the former Bristol City man will hope to keep his place this weekend as Villa take on Derby in what is a huge game for both sides.

The Verdict

This is good news for Villa as Adomah has been a very good player since signing and was Players' Player of the Season in the previous campaign.

And, Smith is clearly a fan having started him in the three games he has been available for since taking over.

Given that, it makes sense for him to stay and he will hope to play a key role in a promotion push for Villa this season.
