A number of Cardiff City supporters have fumed over reports that emerged from talkSPORT suggesting that the Bluebirds had been turned down by former Wigan Athletic manager Paul Cook after offering him just a six-month deal.

The Bluebirds have moved swiftly to find a replacement to Neil Harris, and the club have now confirmed that former Ipswich Town manager McCarthy is their next permanent manager. That sees the experienced boss make a return to England following a brief spell with Cypriot side APOEL Nicosia.

However, it appears that the Bluebirds’ first choice to replace Harris was Cook, with the former Wigan boss still available having reportedly held talks with Sheffield Wednesday over the vacant manager’s job at Hillsborough. However, those talks are no longer ongoing. It now seems like he had been offered the Cardiff job only to turn it down due to the length of contract he was offered.

Wilson? Glatzel? – Can you name which Cardiff City player scored each these 15 goals this season?

Cook has a strong reputation for the job he did with Wigan making them one of the form teams in the Championship in the second half of last term, despite them eventually being relegated after a points deduction. He could have been a good choice for the Bluebirds, but it is McCarthy who is going to be the one to take charge instead.

Many Cardiff fans were left bemused by the Bluebirds’ decision only to offer Cook a six-month deal, with some of those believing that Cardiff have made a potentially big mistake.

Here then, we take a look at some of the best reactions on social media…
