Bolton Wanderers teenager Ronan Darcy has claimed that Stoke City winger Thibaud Verlinden and Celtic midfielder Luca Connell are the best players he has ever played with.

The 19-year-old is one of a number of young players that have come through at the North West club this season after they were forced to step up to the first team due to financial issues.

Off the field problems decimated the Trotters squad over the summer, leaving them with a side that was mostly made up of youth team players.

Darcy has been one of the most impressive of those and has continued to feature for Keith Hill's side even after his squad was replenished – making 21 appearances in all.

The forward took over the club's official Twitter account today to do a Q&A earlier today and was pressed on who the best player he has played with was.

Verlinden spent the first half of the season on loan with Bolton and was hugely impressive, scoring three times and providing three assists in 17 appearances.

Such were the quality of the winger's performances that he was recalled by his parent club, Stoke, in January.

Connell came through the academy at Bolton with Darcy but left in July to join Celtic.

The defensive midfielder is yet to make his senior debut for the Scottish club but has featured for the reserves.

The Verdict

It's a bold claim to name this duo as the best players he's ever played with, though you feel the promising 19-year-old will likely play with some better ones as his career progress.

Darcy may get a few pelters from his current teammates when he returns to training with Bolton.

The teenager has shown in glimpses just how bright a prospect he is and with his contract set to expire this summer, it will be interesting to see how his situation develops and where he ends up.
