Eoin Doyle has led the line at Bolton for a few seasons now and has already bagged three goals so far this campaign, so it will be a blow to hear that he could be out of action for the side's FA Cup game against Stockport, as reported by The Bolton News.

The player has featured in 16 games so far this year and continues to be a mainstay in the side.

Last season was when he really shone for Bolton though, popping up with 19 finishes as the side managed to seal third place in the fourth tier and a promotion back up into League One.

He's continued his form a division higher and with the team preparing for an FA Cup tie against Stockport, it will be a blow then to hear that he will be unavailable for the fixture.

Speaking to The Bolton News about the striker, boss Ian Evatt said: "We decided not to risk Eoin on Friday, he’s got a slight calf issue and we still haven’t decided what to do with that yet, whether to risk it or leave it a few more days. But it’s nothing serious."

It means then that the attacker might have to sit out the cup competition but the good news is that it shouldn't have him sidelined for much longer. If it isn't too much of a serious injury, then it should see Doyle return to the lineup for their next league fixture if he doesn't play a part against Stockport.

For that FA Cup tie though, they may have to look elsewhere for their attacking inspiration.

The Verdict

Eoin Doyle has certainly proven to be a potent striker in both League One and Two over the course of his career. He was one of the best players in the fourth tier for Bolton last year and it looks like he is continuing to be trusted as the main striker in the third tier.

The striker being sidelined is a blow but it's nothing that Bolton can't handle. They should be able to rest him if needs be for their next fixture and then see him return to the starting eleven for the next league game.
