Bolton Wanderers midfielder Josh Vela has confirmed that he will leave the club when his contract expires in a few weeks.

The 25-year-old made 182 appearances for Bolton, scoring 13 goals and he made 19 appearances for the team in all competitions this season.

Vela joined the club as a seven-year old and went on to progress through the club's academy, making his first-team debut as a teenager in the Premier League in 2012.

The midfielder confirmed his departure from the club with several emotional messages on his personal twitter account on Monday morning.

Vela thanked fans for their continued support over the years and wished the club all the best for the future, adding that he will always be a supporter of the club.

Bolton finished the season 23rd in the Championship table, after a terrible campaign both on and off the field and will look to bounce back in League One next season.

The Verdict:

Vela has been an important player for Bolton over the past few years and it must have been a difficult decision for him to leave the club after 17 years.

It is clear from his message how much the club means to him and he will be hoping to see the team return to the Championship next season, by winning promotion from League One.

Given all their issues off the pitch, this is sure to be one of many departures from the club over what will be a very busy summer.
