Bolton Wanderers’ stance over the futures of this duo becomes clearer

Bolton Wanderers boss Ian Evatt has told the Manchester Evening News that no decision has been made over the futures of both Ronan Darcy and Dennis Politic at the club.

Both players are currently out on loan, with Politic taking in a spell for Port Vale whilst Darcy is plying his trade for Sogndal in Norway.

Politic is due to remain with the Valiants until the summer, whilst Darcy is set to return to the Trotters in December when the Norwegian league campaign ends.

The former previously declined the offer of a new deal with the club, with Evatt recently providing an update on the situation:

“I don’t think we’ve had any further dialogue with Dennis or his agent. As I said, we made him an offer.

“That offer was politely declined so for now we’ll play it by ear and see how things develop.”

Before he then offered an update on Darcy:

“Ronan has been in and out. I spoke to him a week or so ago. He obviously had an unfortunate incident where one of his players, quite close to him, collapsed on the pitch and was taken to hospital with a serious heart condition.

“For a young player to witness that, it can be difficult. But it speaks volume to Ronan’s character that he’s taken on the challenge of being in a foreign country away from his parents, away from his family and focusing solely on his football. We’re looking forward to getting him back.

“He needs to play regular football so we’ll get Ronan back and see where he’s at, and we’ll make a decision on it.

“Fortunately for Ronan at the moment we’re one lighter with Sarc (Antoni Sarcevic) leaving in that position, which could open up a spot for him. But again he’s got to come back and earn it.”

Quiz: Have Bolton Wanderers ever won an away game at each of these 20 stadiums?

Politic is set to see his current deal expire in the summer of next year and is currently assessing his options.

Whilst Darcy is under contract with the Trotters until the summer of 2023 as he continues to look to improve his all round game.

The Verdict

Bolton are in a slightly challenging position with regards to how best to manage these two young players and it will be interesting to see what route they go down moving forwards.

Both of them will want to continue to play regular football, but it is perhaps the situation involving Politic which is the most challenging.

Losing a player of his talent for free would be a big blow for the Trotters but at the same time they cannot force him to stay.

As for Darcy, there could well be a place for him in the squad past December, especially after the departure of Sarcevic.
