According to The Bolton News, Bolton Wanderers want to bring Sammy Ameobi back to the club.

Sammy Ameobi is set to become available on a free transfer when his contract with Newcastle United expires at the end of this month.

This would spell the end of Sammy Ameobi's nine year association with Newcastle United after he joined their academy in 2008.

His contract is due to expire and he will probably leave after failing to make an impact under Rafa Benitez in the Championship last season - only managing four appearances.

The 25-year-old spent the first half of the season on loan at Bolton Wanderers in League One, helping them to mount their successful promotion challenge with four goals in 24 appearances for the Trotters.

Bolton are keen to bring Ameobi back to the club on a free transfer but wages could prove to be a stumbling block.

They will look to re-sign the former Nigeria and England youth international on a permanent deal if he is willing to lower the wages that he has been on with Newcastle in the Premier League and the Championship.

Ameobi was impressive during his time at Bolton last season with his performances from the wing and he is thought to be open to a return to the Macron Stadium to reunite with Phil Parkinson ahead of their Championship campaign.
