Bolton Wanderers striker Adam Le Fondre has secured a surprise move away from the Trotters.

Le Fondre is set for a switch to Australian side Sydney FC, with the deal being confirmed by Bolton during their Carabao Cup defeat against Leeds United last night.

Their statement confirmed he had been offered an “opportunity of a lifetime” and that he had expressed a strong desire to take up the challenge. they ended by saying;

"Taking all factors into consideration, Bolton Wanderers Football Club has reluctantly agreed to allow the player to leave the club with immediate effect to pursue his ambitions."

The 31-year old has had three stints at Bolton, twice joining on loan before making a permanent move in June 2017. his first spell brought nine goals from 17 Championship appearances, with him adding six from 19 during his second stint.

His permanent move wasn't quite as prolific, the Stockport born forward scored 7 in 38 matches.

This season he's made just one appearance, a final farewell although that wasn't realised at the time, coming on for the final ten minutes of the 2-2 draw with Bristol City.

The Verdict

Le Fondre has scored 183 career goals and at one point was a regular 20 a season man. Age has caught up with him though and last season he looked less of a threat, although he still managed to bag himself a few.

This move is a dream for him, and Bolton have acted graciously in allowing it to happen. He didn't seem to be a big part of their first team plans so it works well all round.
