Bolton midfielder Jeff King has expressed his excitement at potentially making his home debut for the Trotters, in an interview with the club’s official website.

The 21-year-old linked up with the club from non-league Droylsden mid-way through last season, but Bolton’s transfer embargo prevented Phil Parkinson’s side from registering the player for league action.

With the embargo now lifted, King made his debut for the club in the Carabao Cup tie at West Ham United, and made his Championship bow at Bristol City a couple of weeks ago.

King could get the nod from Parkinson when Bolton host Sheffield Wednesday at the Macron this weekend, and the player is understandably excited to finally make his long-awaited home debut.

“I’ve had to wait for my debut so I’m glad that I’ve finally been able to get it out of the way,” he said. “Everyone’s pleased for me and now I’m focussed on looking forward and getting another game.

“The gaffer thinks highly of me and I’m grateful to him for believing in me and giving me an opportunity.”

The Verdict

It has been a difficult few months for the youngster, who has been resigned to reserve football while his registration issues were solved, but King may now look to the future and begin to really focus on his career as a Championship player.

Having bounced around academies as a youngster, King made his name in non-league football, and his rise to the second tier of the English game in such a short period is nothing short of remarkable.

Parkinson obviously has great faith in the player’s ability, and King could be the wildcard that helps to drag Bolton off of the foot of the table.

A solid showing against the Owls could earn King a regular spot in the middle, and the player will be sure to seize any opportunity afforded to him by his manager.
