The season is still very much alive for the Trotters, although they'd prefer that wasn't the case.

Whilst Millwall and Sheffield United have adjusted very nicely to life in the second tier, Bolton Wanderers have found it tough going on their return.

With two points separating them and the bottom three, relegation is still very much a possibility, something that is surely unthinkable after promotion last season.

They have struggled for goals and haven't been tight enough at the back to compensate for the dry spell up front. That has resulted in a succession of defeats and draws, none of which have been helpful in pulling themselves away from the foot of the table.

It goes without saying Phil Parkinson will be looking at changing their fortunes next season, whether that is in League One or the Championship. Given the form of the other sides around them, staying in the Championship looks likely if not a foregone conclusion.

However, Parkinson will need to add a steel at the back and some sharp shooting up front, which is why FLW believe they should be sending scouts to look at the following four players.

Raggett is a big central defender who signed for Norwich City from Lincoln at the beginning of the season. After a spell back on loan at sincil Bank he swept into Carrow Road hoping to be given his chance.

Instead, Norwich have left him on the fringes, not getting the first team football he richly deserves. He's a threat in both boxes, comfortable with the ball at his feet and as tough as they come. He would be a great addition to Bolton's ranks and might not break the bank either.

Payne has been creating goals for fun at Blackburn, on loan from Huddersfield, and Bolton might do well to have him watched closely.

His future is up in the air, will Huddersfield want to keep him or will he be available? Whichever division Bolton find themselves in, Payne would be a big addition to their squad as he'd lay chances on for those misfiring forwards.

Former West Ham winger Adelakun is growing into some player at Glanford Park, with ten assists to his name this season.

He's been attracting attention from all over the country and Bolton would do well to add their name to the list. He looks to be on his way out of North Lincolnshire this summer and whoever does snap him up will have a very exciting and pacey player on their hands.

If Portsmouth don't come up this season, then Bolton could do worse than turn to 30-year old Brett Pitman to help ease their goal scoring crisis.

He's been in great form on the south coast this season, but still has a year left to run on his contract. Bolton won't have huge transfer budgets available, but what they do have they must use sensibly on bringing in a goal scorer. Pitman has 21 goals this season, Clough, La Fondre, Ameobi, and Wilbraham have 12 between the four of them. It's a no brainer really.
