The Bolton News is reporting that Jem Karacan could join Bolton Wanderers on a free transfer.

Karacan has been a free agent since leaving Turkish giants Galatasaray in early January and he recently had trials with Sky Bet Championship duo Wigan Athletic and Norwich City.

The 28-year-old appears to be interested in a move back to England and League One promotion hopefuls Bolton Wanderers could offer him a route back into the Football League.

Karacan was born in London and came up through the youth system at Reading.

He went on to become a fans' favourite for the Royals, racking up well over 150 appearances between 2007 and 2015 before moving to Turkey to chase his national team ambitions.

The technically gifted midfielder played for Galatasaray and had a loan spell at Bursaspor but his career never really got going in Turkey and he never made it to the senior national squad.

Now back in England, Bolton look set to offer Karacan a short term contract.
