Bolton Wanderers are leading some other Championship clubs in the race to land Mark Milligan, according to The Sun.

Bolton Wanderers, Birmingham City and Burton Albion all hold an interest in Mark Milligan this summer but it looks like the Trotters are ahead of their competitors at the moment.

Mark Milligan was playing for Australia in the Confederations Cup and Phil Parkinson jetted out to watch him in action and hold personal talks.

The 31-year-old was most recently playing for Baniyas SC, who are based in Abu Dhabi, but he is keen to challenge himself in England for the first time in his career.

The Australian international captain has previously played for Northern Spirit, Blacktown City, Sydney FC, Newcastle Jets, Shanghai Shenhua, JEF United Chiba and Melbourne Victory in his career.

Bolton are keen on signing the versatile Australian star, who is capable of playing at full back and centre back as well as being able to play as a defensive midfielder or a central midfielder.

With 59 international caps to his name and the Australian captaincy under his belt, Milligan would add plenty of experience and leadership to whoever he joins.

Burton could pull out of the race if they land top target Jake Buxton in defence while Birmingham remain keen on bringing in another defender.

But Bolton are in pole position to sign the Socceroo after Parkinson held discussions with him during the Confederations Cup.
