Bolton Wanderers are reportedly holding talks with former Coventry City forward Amadou Bakayoko, according to Football Insider.

Bakayoko signed for the Sky Blues back in 2018, and went on to make 85 appearances in total for the club, before it was announced that he would depart at the end of the 2020/21 season, when his contract reached a conclusion.

That included 17 appearances in this year's campaign, in what was a frustrating season for the 25-year-old, as he found regular minutes hard to come by in Mark Robins' squad.

The forward is now a free-agent, and will be looking to find a new club ahead of the upcoming league campaign, which is set to get underway in August.

Bolton Wanderers will be preparing for life back in the third tier of English football, after winning promotion from League Two in the 2020/21 season.

The Trotters have reportedly held talks with Bakayoko over a potential agreement to see him move to Bolton, with the 25-year-old being eager to have his future resolved in the near future.

He was part of the Coventry City team that won promotion from League One in the 2019/20 season, and he'll be keen to have a similar impact ahead of the new campaign.

Bolton are set to take on MK Dons in their opening match of the 2021/22 campaign, in what is likely to be a tricky test for Ian Evatt's side.

The Verdict:

This could turn out to be an excellent signing by the Trotters.

Bolton are going to need players that have experience of playing in League One, and Bakayoko has that having played for Coventry City at that level.

I wasn't surprised to see him leave Coventry this summer, as he wouldn't have been getting the game time that he wanted moving forwards.

If he can replicate the strong performances he had for the Sky Blues in League One, then Bolton could have a decent addition on their hands.
