Midfielder Charlie Telfer has rejected an offer from an unnamed Championship club in favour of moving to the Netherlands, according to The Scottish Sun.

That Championship club is believed to be Bolton Wanderers, who ran the rule over Charlie Telfer during a trial period.

Reliable football journalist Alan Nixon has confirmed that Charlie Telfer is heading to Holland rather than penning a deal with Bolton.

Telfer was a free agent after leaving Dundee United at the end of last season.

With experience in the Scottish Championship already under his belt, the 22-year-old was searching for a new club and had a trial period with Bolton Wanderers, who have recently been promoted to the Championship.

Bolton are under embargo and are therefore limited to loans and free transfers so Charlie Telfer was seen as a top target.

However, the 22-year-old is now set to put pen to paper on a two year deal with Almere City, who play in the Eerste Divisie - the second tier of Dutch football.

The former Rangers man also had offers in Scotland but he has opted to move abroad.

The Championship club (thought to be Bolton) had tabled a "concrete contract offer" to the Scotland under-21 midfielder but that was rejected in favour of a move to Almere City.

The Verdict

Bolton assessed Charlie Telfer during a trial period and were obviously impressed by what the midfield man had to offer.

Therefore, it will come as a disappointment that he has opted to reject their contract offer and move elsewhere.

It is not clear whether Bolton wanted Telfer as one for the future or as an immediate fix; if it is the latter, then they'll need to assess other options quickly.
