Bolton Wanderers are close to completing a move for Erhun Oztumer, according to Sky Sports.

The 27-year-old is available as a free agent after declining new contract offers from Walsall.

He had a stunning individual season even though the Saddlers struggled because he scored 15 times and assisted six others in 45 league games, which helped keep Walsall in the division with a 19th place finish.

His attacking contributions last season mean he was a bargain for Championship clubs even if he does have to step up a division, so he attracted interest from multiple suitors for his services.

However, Bolton appear to have successfully fought off other clubs.

The Verdict

This is a great move for the club because they needed to add to their attacking options if they were going to build on their survival in the Championship last season. They were a well-organised defensive side last season with little attacking ambition or creativity, but that will only get them so far and there is a clear space in the team for someone with a skillset such as Oztumer's.

Phil Parkinson is likely to build the side around Oztumer to some extent because he will go straight into the first-team, so giving him the creative role in the team should get the best out of him and potentially allow him to replicate his form with Walsall.
