Bolton Wanderers are edging closer to being taken over, according to a report in the Bolton News.

According to the report, a UK based consortium has agreed to take over the Lancashire club with a deal agreed in principle to take the club from the hands of controversial owner Ken Anderson.

The Trotters owner has been openly trying to sell the club in recent times, and has come under fire from a large selection of fans for his financial difficulties and apparent lack of payment to players wages at times.

Anderson only took over the club in 2016 when he was part of a group that included former player Dean Holdsworth, with that consortium on hand to rescue the club from essentially going out of business.

However, this latest news for Bolton will no doubt be more than welcomed by fans, who have in the main become disillusioned with life under their owner.

Indeed, Anderson caused outrage last month when he sent Christian Doidge back to Forest Green despite the player having agreed terms with the club and a fee agreed between the Trotters and Forest Green Rovers.

Little more information has been disclosed thus far in relation to the takeover, but it is believed that it could be complete in the coming days if things keep progressing.

The Verdict

Wow, this will be massive news for Bolton fans, who have been actively seeking to get Anderson out of their club.

Hopefully this is the end of a miserable era for the Trotters, and with a bit of luck their new owners can sort the club out from top to bottom.

Exciting times ahead certainly for Bolton, providing the consortium do things right.
