With the new season edging closer, Ian Evatt will be keen to get his recruitment close to completing and it seems he could get a big boost in doing so very soon.

Bolton Wanderers have been interested in Derry City's Eoin Toal although they saw their initial bid for the defender rejected by the Irish side.

Despite the initial rejection though, The Bolton News reported that the club would continue in their pursuit of the 23-year-old and representatives of the club were sent over the Ireland to discuss a potential deal.

It seems those talks went well too with The Bolton News now reporting that the defender is on his way to Bolton for a medical before signing a deal.

Toal was missing from his side's squad on Sunday's game and following the game, Derry's boss Ruaidhri Higgins confirmed a move looked likely as he said: "It's not official but obviously he's not here today.

"He's a proper man, a rally good player and I've got nothing but good things to say about him.

"I think there's been reports over the last 24 hours that it's close and it looks close."

With the player's contract in Ireland expiring at the end of the calendar year, we could well see Ian Evatt get his latest addition very soon.

The Verdict:

This is a bit of business that makes sense for all involved. It's clear Toal wants to make the move to English football as he has the talent to succeed and with his contract expiring soon, this gives Derry City the opportunity to cash in on him.

Toal would be a good signing for Bolton as they look to straighten their options on the left hand side next season and given he is still a young player, this could be the start of the next phase of his development.

Although Bolton will have had to improve their offer for the player, it's a show that Evatt is keen on the youngster and willing to get the best out of him.
