In one of the most surprising stories to come out of the Championship in recent times, bottom of the table Bolton are set to sign former Arsenal and Real Madrid striker Julio Baptista in an attempt to save their campaign.
The report from the Sun has revealed that the now 35-year-old is close to signing for the struggling club as a free agent after being released by Orlando City last year.
12 years ago, Baptista was one of the hottest properties in world football and proved that by signing for Real Madrid for a fee of £20 million.
The Brazilian was then loaned out to Arsenal one year later where he flopped and was subsequently sold to Roma one year after his loan with Arsenal expired.
Following his release from Orlando City, the striker told Sky Sports that he isn’t finished yet and had his agent currently searching for a new club.
Now it looks all but certain that Baptista will be joining England’s second division to try and save Bolton from their relegation woes.
In all honesty, a lot of us here at FLW had forgotten Julio Baptista was still playing.
Bolton are clearly in a bad situation if they are having to rely on a 35-year-old who has already proved once that he wasn’t very good in England.
Who knows, maybe he’ll bang in 30 goals this season if he signs for the Bolton and save the club.
Realistically speaking, he’ll probably get a handful of goals but Bolton can’t let their entire season rest on the shoulders of one man.
