Bolton Wanderers chairman Ken Anderson has revealed the club came close to signing Derby County striker David Nugent on deadline day.

In a report issued by the Bristol Post, the Trotters supremo spoke of the potential deals the club had in place, and revealed that Nugent was close to joining the club before ultimately deciding to stay put at Pride Park.

"We were very close with two other forwards, Liam Boyce of Burton Albion and Derby County’s David Nugent, and we will definitely seek out options again for January. We had a deal agreed with Derby for Nugent but he ultimately decided that he wanted to fight for his place there." said Anderson.

Bolton have had an excellent start to the Championship season and sit in 7th place in the table following yesterday's draw with rivals Preston North End.

The additon of Nugent would no doubt have been a massive signing for the club, with the former England man having plenty of Championship experience in the tank and still having plenty to offer in terms of goals and first team football.

Nugent will be hoping to play a key part for the Rams as they seek to win promotion under new manager Frank Lampard.

Rams fans, what do you make of this? Would you have let Nugent go? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
