Bolton Wanderers have broken their silence surrounding their mounting financial problems, making a statement in which they confirm that talks have been terminating with a potential buyer.

They are due in court tomorrow to face a winding up petition that could lead to a 12 point deduction and even liquidation, but they insist talks are ongoing with other candidates.

Published on their official website, the statement reads: “Bolton Wanderers Football Club can confirm that discussions with one of the interested parties have now been mutually terminated.

“The Club can also confirm that discussions are ongoing with other parties.

“A further update will be made in due course.”

The club have had a torrid season amidst a host of off-field problems with owner Ken Anderson coming under immense pressure to sell the club.

The Trotters look doomed to be playing League One football next season, currently sitting second bottom of the second-tier table and nine points from safety.

It was revealed earlier today that it is possible that all of the club’s results could be wiped if they go into liquidation before the end of the season, which could have significant effects at both ends of the division.

The verdict

Another empty, ultimately meaningless statement from the club.

I suppose that some fans could take comfort from the fact that they are continuing to negotiate with other parties.

I would not be holding out much hope, however.
