Free agent Nicky Bailey is interesting a host of Championship and League One clubs, with Lancashire rivals Blackburn Rovers and Bolton Wanderers both believed to be in the running to sign the ex-Middlesbrough midfielder.
The combative midfielder is available on a free transfer after leaving Millwall in the summer following an injury-hit two years at the Den, where he made just 36 appearances between 2013 and 2015.
The former Charlton Athletic and Middlesbrough midfielder has been training with former pro and the current Ghana fitness coach Jamie Lawrence in order to build up his fitness, and has now overcome the niggling injuries that interrupted his time with Millwall.
With the 31-year-old’s comeback from injury complete, Southend’s 2007/2008 player of the year is interesting a number of Football League clubs, with Rotherham United, Blackpool and his former club Southend joining Blackburn and Bolton in the pursuit for Bailey.
The 5ft 10 midfielder comes with a wealth of experience and it could turn out to be an astute purchase from a Football League club, with his combative style of play suiting the Championship and League One.
Whatever club that goes on to sign the player will be getting someone who will add steel and grit in the heart of midfield, but whether the Putney-born star will be able to remain fit over the season is yet to be seen.
