Bolton Wanderers are making a good fist of things back in League One as they seek to win promotion straight back to the Championship following last seasons miserable form.

Under Phil Parkinson they have managed to put their past behind them and forget the miserable time they had last season in the Championship.

Bolton are fighting it out with the likes of Sheffield United and Scunthorpe United up at the top of the third tier, and they could well stick it out if they can add some fresh faces to the squad in January.

Manager Phil Parkinson might well look to the Premier League to strengthen his squad, where plenty of players find themselves out of favour in the top flight with squads full of high profile signings and talent.

Here, FLW writer Lee Connor looks at THREE Premier League fringe players Bolton could look to sign in January...

Matty James

Matty James

Central midfielder James has overcome serious injury but finds himself out of the picture for the Foxes this season still.

A move back to the North West might appeal to him given his current situation, with the chance to get some first team football under his belt a key factor in his decision.

James is a class act at the level below the Premier League, and he will really add some quality to the Bolton ranks if he was to make the move to the Trotters.

David Nugent

This would be an excellent signing, and one which could be hard to pull off, but Boro man Nugent is a real threat in the lower leagues.

His pace and work rate make him a compete nuisance for defenders, and he would be a real coup for the Trotters.

Nugent is not a regular fixture in the Boro side these days, and a chance to move and get some first team football might be too good to turn down. However, Bolton would face some serious competition for his signature, and it would be an absolute steal if they were to sign him.

Jonathan Leko

The young West Brom man is still exceptionally raw, but a loan spell in the third tier could well do him the world of good.

Tony Pulis clearly rates the young man, with his inclusion in first team squads speaking volumes about how highly he is thought of.

Leko is a talented wide man who can also operate through the middle up front. If Leko could find some form in a loan spell elsewhere, then Pulis might well be impressed enough to put him in the first team.
