Butland, aged 21 is a target for several Championship clubs, with Bolton lining up a proposed loan deal.

This speculation regarding the England keeper with a move to the Macron Stadium has come about due to the uncertain future of current first choice goalkeeper Adam Bogdan.

Bogdan's future has been up in the air over recent weeks, with the Hungarian shot stopper stalling over a new contract, and could be sold to ease Bolton's crippling financial worries, with fellow Championship club Fulham, and German Bundesliga club  Mainz both linked with the Bolton keeper.

Should Bogdan leave, at this current time Andrew Lonergan is the only senior keeper at the club, leaving Dougie Freedman in a race against time to secure the Butland deal, with Adam Bogdan's future hanging in the balance.

The keeper is unlikely to feature for Stoke this season, due to the form of Asmir Begovic, so much so he spent time on loan at Yorkshire clubs Barnsley and Leeds United last season.
