According to a reliable football journalist on Twitter, Bolton Wanderers are targeting two League One players this summer.

Alan Nixon is reporting that Bolton want to sign Bradford City's Charlie Wyke and Burton Albion's Hope Akpan.

Wyke scored 16 goals for Bradford last season in his first full campaign with the Bantams following his January 2017 switch from Carlisle.

The 25-year-old, who started his career at Middlesbrough, could cost the Trotters up to £1m.

Bolton are also keen on Akpan, who is available as a free agent at the end of this month if he does not commit his future to Burton.

The Brewers have offered the 26-year-old central midfielder a new deal but he is yet to make a decision over his future with Bolton ready to offer him a route back to the Championship.

The 4-cap Nigeria international was relegated with Blackburn Rovers in 2016/17 before suffering the same fate with Burton last year.

Akpan nearly scored the goal to relegate Bolton but his side slumped to a loss against Preston with Bolton's win over Nottingham Forest sealing their survival instead.

The Verdict

Wyke does come in for a bit of criticism at Bradford as fans believe he should be scoring more goals than he currently does.

But there is no denying that he can score goals at League One level and perhaps might want to test himself higher.

Akpan would be a decent squad option on a free but perhaps Bolton should be aiming higher if they want to move up the league table.
