The Championship trio of Bolton Wanderers, Nottingham Forest, and Queens Park Rangers are interested in former Newcastle winger Sammy Ameobi, according to Get West London.
The 25-year-old will be released by the Magpies at the end of the month after almost a decade at St James’ Park, in which time he played 70 times for the North East giants, scoring four goals along the way.
However, he has spent the last few seasons on loan around the country with first Cardiff in the 2015/16 campaign and then Phil Parkinson’s Bolton last time out, netting twice in 20 League One matches to help the Trotters earn automatic promotion back to the Championship.
And Parkinson’s men are one of three second tier sides reportedly interested in bringing the out-of-contract star to the Macron Stadium next season, with Mark Warburton’s Forest and Ian Holloway’s QPR also thought to be monitoring the former England Under-21 international.
Bolton will be looking at how they can improve their squad ahead of their Championship campaign next term, and with Ameobi having done reasonably well for them last time round they know what they are going to get with the 25-year-old, and thus could look to approach him this summer.
However, it has been reported that both Forest and QPR are also interested in landing Ameobi, with both sides helping for significantly better next time round after frustrating 2016/17 campaigns, and given the 25-year-old has shown genuine quality at both Newcastle, Cardiff, and Bolton in recent times, he may be a shrewd addition for either club.
Whether any of the aforementioned trio can get a deal done for the £2.55 million-rated winger (as per Transfermarkt) remains to be seen, but given he’ll be released by the Magpies at the end of the month, he’ll be on the lookout for his next career move.
