Sky Bet Championship side Bolton Wanderers are interested in signing Manchester United forward Nick Powell on a loan deal, a club insider from Bolton has informed Football League World.

Powell is being targeted by Bolton Wanderers

Despite an outstanding start to his career at Crewe Alexandra, the 21-year-old's career has stagnated following his £6 million move to Manchester United, where he has found himself on the periphery at Old Trafford, making just two appearances for the club.

A spate of unspectacular loan spells and questions about his professionalism have further dented Powell's progress. A season long loan with newly promoted Premier League side Leicester City last season ended with Powell making only three appearances for the Foxes, with then Leicester boss Nigel Pearson even opting to end the loan spell early due to questions about his professionalism and attitude in training.

A productive loan spell at Wigan Athletic for the duration of the 2013/14 season yielded 12 goals in 42 games, but Powell's reoccurring injury troubles have prevented any further loan spells away from United, but his return from the sidelines this summer has given Louis Van Gaal the opportunity to loan Powell out, and FLW have been informed via a club insider from the Trotters, that Bolton boss Neil Lennon is showing interest in the England U21 international.

Bolton Wanderers are keen on a deal for Powell's teammate James Wilson, but FLW have been told that if they fail to lure Wilson to the Macron Stadium, they will then consider a move for Powell.

Bolton's recent 2-1 victory over Wolves at the Macron stadium was Bolton's first of the new season, which pushed the Trotters up to 17th in the Championship table.

Despite their narrow win, goals have been hard to come by for Lennon's side, with the Northern Irishman looking to seal deals for Powell and ex-Wanderers, Newcastle and West Ham player Kevin Nolan in a bid to push Bolton up the table.
