Championship strugglers Bolton Wanderers are eyeing a shock move for Real Madrid striker Raul de Tomas, according to the respected journalist Alan Nixon.

The Trotters are looking to add some firepower to the ranks for next season and have now reportedly identified the 23-year-old as an ideal signing.

Tomas, who spent last year on loan with Rayo Vallecano, has yet to make an appearance for Madrid since making the step up from the Castilla side at the Bernabeu, but he has proven he can hit the back of the net in various loan spells, meaning Bolton's interest is quite the shock.

The Spaniard has also had time with Cordoba and Valladolid over in Spain, and with a break in to the Madrid first team looking unlikely, he could well fancy a complete career change and be interested in a move to Lancashire and the Trotters.

Manager Phil Parkinson will no doubt see this as an ambitious move, but Bolton do have a history of attracting big name signings out of nowhere following their stint in the mid-2000s of signing the likes of Jay-Jay Okocha, Youri Djorkaeff, and Spanish legend Fernando Hierro.

Bolton fans, what do you make of this story? Can you really sign a Madrid player? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
