Bolton Wanderers are set to play their final game of a disastrous Championship season against Nottingham Forest on Sunday, despite the squad being on strike for their previous fixture.

The match against Brentford was postponed following a strike over an unpaid wage bill, after the Trotters' campaign has been marred by financial trouble.

The club's future has been plunged further into doubt after prospective owner Laurence Bassini saw his takeover bid fail on Thursday evening, but despite this, Bolton must now gear up for their final match of the season against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

It has been confirmed that the Bolton squad will make themselves available for this game, but left-back Andy Taylor has now detailed why the squad refused to play against Brentford.

"We created an awareness and hopefully this leads to a quicker resolution to all this," he told The Bolton News.

“If the authorities – the EFL, the FA, whatever – act that little bit faster now, or if we’ve prompted them into action to deal with Bolton Wanderers, then it has been worth it.

"We have felt completely helpless. We have been in the middle of this mess and been asked to perform out there to the best of our ability every week, which is difficult when you literally feel like you’re in the dark over it all."

With relegation already confirmed, Sunday's match carries little relevance for Phil Parkinson's side, while it remains to be seen whether the Brentford match will get replayed.

The Verdict

Taylor's comments are logical and will be widely supported by Bolton fans and the wider footballing world.

The whole situation at the club has become farcical, and there appears to be little point in the Brentford clash getting re-arranged.

Bolton will now just want this season over as soon as possible.
