Bolton Wanderers could move for Ipswich Town striker Joe Garner if a move for Charlie Wyke fails to materialise, according to The Yorkshire Post.

There are concerns in the Bolton camp that a move for Wyke could fall flat due to his current injury.

If the Bradford City striker is ruled out for a while, Bolton will turn their attention to Ipswich forward Garner as they seek to add more firepower up front.

Garner netted 10 league goals last season in 32 games, playing second fiddle to Martyn Waghorn in the scoring charts.

The 30-year-old joined from Rangers and he previously enjoyed time at Preston North End, scoring 57 goals in 151 games for the Lilywhites, including 25 League One goals to earn them promotion in 2014/15.

The Trotters currently have Adam le Fondre and Clayton Donaldson as their centre-forward options and hope to improve their squad depth up front by signing Wyke or Garner.

The Verdict

Garner would be a good signing for Bolton and while he may not be a 20-goal striker, him and le Fondre could reach that total between them.

Bolton need to add goals to their squad so that they do not end up battling relegation on the final day like last season.

And with a measly budget compared to other Championship rivals, Bolton need to be shrewd in their business so Garner would be a reasonable addition.
