Bolton Wanderers announced three new signings ahead of their League One clash at Wycombe Wanderers this afternoon.

The Trotters off-the-field issues have been well-documented and it meant they went into today's game with only a handful of senior players to choose from.

A failure to complete a takeover has meant that Phil Parkinson has been unable to add to his squad, although they have had several potential signings training with the club over the past few weeks.

And, a few deals were confirmed this afternoon, with James Weir, Harry Brockbank and Josh Earl all signing for Bolton - and starting today's game.

Brockbank, a defender, has agreed a new two-year to remain at the club, which will be a major boost given how highly-rated the youngster is.

Meanwhile, Earl, another defensive option, has joined the club on an initial loan until January from Championship side Preston North End.

The final addition is midfielder James Weir, who was a free agent after leaving Hull City and he has agreed a one-year contract to join the third-tier outfit.

The trio will be hoping to help Bolton to a win this afternoon as they look to get off to a good start having gone into the campaign with a 12 point deduction.

The Verdict

It is extremely strange to see a club announce three new signings just under an hour before they are about to make their debuts but that sums up what has gone on at Bolton this summer!

Clearly, Parkinson just needs to get as many new players in as he can and in fairness all three are good signings on paper and the fans will be particularly pleased to see Brockbank extend his stay.

Now, it's about trying to help the club pick up some points, starting this afternoon.
