Bolton Wanderers are leading the chase to secure a deal for Walsall's Erhun Oztumer with the attacking midfielder out of contract in the coming weeks.

The former Peterborough man has enjoyed a superb season in League One, where he managed to score 16 goals which were crucial to the Saddlers survival.

Given the level of his performances, Walsall were resigned to losing the player this summer and a host of clubs from the Championship and third tier were thought to be interested in the 27-year old.

However, according to the Express & Star, it's Phil Parkinson and Bolton who are leading the way and they hope to conclude a deal to bring him to Lancashire soon.

The Trotters only preserved their Championship status on the final day of the season thanks to two dramatic late goals against Nottingham Forest.

Yet, scoring goals and creating chances was a major concern for Parkinson's men throughout the season with Gary Madine their top scorer even though he left in January for Cardiff City.

The Verdict

This would be a great signing for Bolton because, as mentioned, they are seriously lacking in the final third.

Oztumer will provide them with that creative spark, some imagination and importantly a major goal threat as he has shown in his time at Walsall.

To get such a player on a free is a great bit of business by the club and fans will hope the deal can get finalised as soon as possible.
