The Championship duo of Bolton Wanderers and Sheffield United, as well as League One outfit Charlton Athletic, are keeping tabs on MK Dons midfielder Ben Reeves, according to The Sheffield Star.
The 25-year-old moved to the stadium:mk back in 2013 after coming up through the ranks at Southampton and then appearing for the first team at St Mary’s, eventually going on to play 13 times for the South Coast outfit before sealing a move to the Dons.
And he has since gone on to become an integral member of the squad, playing 135 matches for the club in the last four years, in which time he helped them seal promotion to the Championship with seven goals and five assists in the 2014/15 season, although was unable to keep them in the second tier the campaign after.
However, although he is still training with the Dons, the Northern Ireland international is a free agent after seeing his contract at the club come to an end back in June, and he has thus attracted interest from several sides around the Football League, with Bolton, Charlton, and Sheffield United all reportedly considering a move for the midfielder.
Phil Parkinson’s Bolton and Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United will both by playing Championship football next season after clinching automatic promotion from League One last time out, and as a result reinforcements will be needed in their quest to remain a second tier side this time next year.
While Charlton boss Karl Robinson will be familiar with Reeves having worked with him during his stint as MK Dons chief, and he clearly feels that the 25-year-old can benefit a squad that finished 13th in League One last term, a hefty 13 points adrift of the play-offs, in their bid to compete near the top end of the table next season.
The lure of Championship football at either the Macron Stadium or Bramall Lane may be too tempting for Reeves to turn down, but a potential reunion with former boss Robinson at the Valley could also be a selling point – ultimately, it very much remains to be seen where Reeves is plying his trade when the new season gets underway in less than three weeks’ time.
