Middlesbrough are close to signing Yannick Bolasie on loan from Everton and that is likely to force another winger out of the exit door.

According to The Yorkshire Post, Bolasie's arrival will lead to the loan departure of Marvin Johnson.

Johnson is a target for Sheffield United and Hull City ahead of the loan deadline at the end of this month.

The 27-year-old failed to make the desired impact at Middlesbrough after stepping up from League One side Oxford United to join the promotion push at The Riverside Stadium.

Although Middlesbrough made the play-offs, Johnson featured just 17 times in the league, including six starts.

Predominantly a left-winger, Johnson can also play as a left-back and this versatility has attracted the interest of Sheffield United and Hull.

Both sides are keen on making a move for the former Motherwell man to bolster their squad and are waiting for the Bolasie deal to be confirmed before swooping.

The Verdict

Johnson is surplus to requirements at Boro and it is in the best interests of all parties that he completes a loan move away.

The versatile left-sided player would be perfect for Sheffield United as someone who can compete with Enda Stevens in the wing-back role.

And Hull could lose Kamil Grosicki so Johnson could replace his creativity.
