Brighton and Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton says that striker Bobby Zamora is getting fitter every day.

The 34-year-old rejoined the Seagulls on a free transfer this summer after a three-year spell back in 2003, claiming that he snubbed a Champions League club to sign on, before he moved on to Tottenham for a year before moving to rivals West Ham - he then went on to make 83 appearances for QPR before being released this summer.

His release left him unfit and it took him a fairly long time to regain his full fitness, and the striker's made five appearances so far this season, with the vast majority coming from the bench.

However, after a hot start to the season from Brighton, manager Chris Hughton believes the club aren't too far away from seeing the former Bristol Rovers man back to his best.

Speaking about Zamora, Hughton told the Argus: “He has still got a bit to do.

“That’s obvious because of (the amount of) games (he has played).

“It would be no different to a Danny Holla coming in, who has been doing all the work but not played as many games.

“Bobby still has a bit to to go but he is training far more regularly now, with more intensity, and he has got that good game at Bolton under his belt.”

Brighton have made an inspired start to the season, and currently sit top the table, having accrued 22 points from ten league games so far this season.

They're the only unbeaten team in England this campaign, and Hughton will be eager to keep up this record, when his side face Leeds United at Elland Road in their next Championship fixture.
