West Brom left-back Kieran Gibbs is facing a battle to be fit for Sunday's game against Huddersfield after picking up another injury in a comeback fixture.

The former Arsenal man hasn't played since he was forced off just 20 minutes in to the draw against Derby County on August 24. However, he was hoping to be fit for the visit of the Terriers this weekend.

But, The Athletic reporter Steve Madely gave a potentially worrying update on the player, revealing that he suffered a injury in a training ground game that fellow defender Ahmed Hegazi featured in.

"Kieran Gibbs also played in that game and picked up another knock so is now a doubt for the Huddersfield game, having looked likely to be available."

With Conor Townsend, the backup left-back, also out, it means that youngster Nathan Ferguson is likely to switch to the left full-back role and Darnell Furlong on the opposite flank - as was the case at Fulham last time out.

Albion are yet to taste defeat in the league this season ahead of the visit of Danny Cowley's strugglers.

The verdict

This is bad news for Slaven Bilic as Gibbs is arguably the best left-back in the league and brings so much to the team in terms of his attacking play as well as his defensive know-how.

Of course, it's really frustrating for Gibbs too, as he has suffered a lot with injuries over the years and he will just want to be out there playing.

Whilst it doesn't sound like a long-term problem, there is no point in taking risks this weekend as there is a long campaign still to play.
