Nottingham Forest have been dealt a blow in their quest to sign midfielder Kevin McDonald, with Fulham slapping a £7m price tag on the Scottish midfielder.

Forest manager Mark Warburton is a known admirer of the 28-year-old midfielder, and was hoping to seal a deal for the former Wolves and Sheffield United ace, but may well be put off by the hefty price tag.

Signing McDonald for such a fee would mean Forest breaking their transfer record, and it might well be something which puts the Reds of pushing the transfer through.

McDonald was instrumental for the Cottagers last season as Slavisa Jokanovic’s men made it into the end of season playoffs, only to come up short against Reading over two legs. However, they will be looking to go again next year, and will be hopeful of keeping their top players like McDonald before the big kick off.

Forest themselves are looking to improve their squad under manager Warburton following a miserable term last year which saw them just escape relegation on the final day.
