Playoff finalists Aston Villa are set to be dealt a blow with the news that Premier League newboys Cardiff City want to sign Robert Snodgrass this summer.

According to Wales Online, Bluebirds manager Neil Warnock has made the Scottish midfielder his number one target this summer, in a move which could signal the end of any interest that Aston Villa and Steve Bruce had in signing Snodgrass.

Snodgrass played an integral part last season for Villa after joining the club on a loan deal from West Ham, with the left footed midfielder going on to become a fans favourite and scoring some crucial goals as he Villain's sealed a place in the Championship Playoff Final.

Villa and manager Steve Bruce will have been hoping to seal another loan move for the Scot this summer as budget restraints hit the club, but with Cardiff now wanting to sign Snodgrass, Villa's plans could well be stifled.

Snodgrass has had spells with Norwich and Leeds previously, as well as Hull, and completed a big money move to West Ham only last summer, only to see his chances with the Hammers limited before sealing his loan move to Villa Park.
