Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has confirmed the club is continuing to pursue a deal for Southend midfielder Ryan Leonard.
The Blades gaffer confirmed to Radio Sheffield’s Rob Staton that they are set to sign Oxford United midfielder John Lundstram, but also confirmed that this does not impact the clubs pursuit of impressive Southend man Leonard.
United have been linked with a move for Leonard for the majority of the summer, and despite Southend manager Phil Brown being keen for his star man to stay put, United manager Wilder is refusing to give up the fight.
The Blades boss was speaking on the back of a 2-1 friendly win over local rivals Rotherham United, where an own goal and a first Blades goal for new signing Enda Stevens sealed another win for Wilder’s men.
Leonard is a classy midfield operator who will be hoping he can make the step up to the Championship if a move can be sorted in time for the beginning of the season.
The Blades are looking to continue their excellent form of last season which saw them romp to the League One title with 100 points to their name.
