Blackpool are preparing for a hugely challenging season ahead.

The Seasiders secured a surprise spot in the League One play-offs and managed to go all the way after beating Lincoln City in the showpiece event at Wembley Stadium.

As a result Neil Critchley's side are preparing for life in the Championship as they look to consolidate their place as a regular feature in the second tier of English football.

It's going to be a very tough season and if Blackpool are to avoid the drop then they're going to need a reliable source of goals to ensure that they pick up the points needed to stay afloat.

They could look to past seasons for inspiration with Blackpool boasting a number of high-scoring talents over the years, but how many of the club's top goalscorers do you remember?

Let's take a look at the numbers, as per Transfermarkt.

The striker was a proven source of goals throughout his career and his time with Blackpool was no different.

Phillips arrived at the club in 2011 and made an immediate impact during his first season at the club, finishing the campaign as the club's top goalscorer.

In 38 Championship fixtures that season, Phillips managed to bag an impressive 16 goals in an almost memorable season for the club.

Blackpool finished the season in fifth place in the Championship and even reached the play-off final after beating Birmingham City in the semi-finals.

That set up a final with West Ham United, but unfortunately it was the Hammers who secured promotion with a 2-1 victory at Wembley.

Unfortunately for Blackpool, the following season was nowhere near as successful.

With many hoping that Ian Holloway's side would challenge for promotion once again, the Seasiders ended up finishing the season in 15th position in the Championship.

Thankfully one positive was the emergence of Tom Ince.

The young winger really came of age as he played 44 times in the league that season, scoring a rather impressive 18 goals in the process to top the club's scoring charts.

Unfortunately this would be his best season for the club with the next year being his last.

The 2013-14 campaign was a disappointing one for Blackpool.

The Lancashire side ended up finishing the season in 20th place in the table after a really disappointing second half of the season.

That was largely down to the departure of Tom Ince during the January transfer window.

Ince enjoyed a strong first half of season as he scored seven goals in 23 appearances for the club, meaning that he was firmly on track to replicate his tally from the previous year.

However Crystal Palace came knocking in the January transfer window and after he left the club found it hard to replace his goals, meaning that he ended the season as the club's top scorer despite on being there for half of it.

It was a season to forget as Blackpool suffered relegation from the Championship.

The club finished the season 20 points from safety, something that wasn't much of a surprise given that the club only scored 36 goals over the course of the campaign.

There wasn't much competition, but the club's top scorer was Steve Davies.

Davies only played 17 times in the Championship but scored five goals in that time, a decent tally which equates to almost one in three.

However it wasn't enough as the Seasiders found themselves subjected to life in League One the following year.

Blackpool fans will remember that things got even worse in 2015-16 as the club suffered a second successive relegation.

While only four points from safety, a tally of just 40 goals meant that the club struggled to get the needed results to keep their heads above water.

In terms of a top goalscorer, again, it was slim-pickings.

Mark Cullen ended up topping the charts for Blackpool after scoring nine times in League One, a pretty average tally given that he played 41 times for the club.

Thankfully the goals would be more evenly split the following year.

Finally Blackpool fans had something to cheer as they adapted to life in League Two.

With Gary Bowyer in charge, the Lancashire side finished the season in seventh position but battled hard to secure promotion via the play-offs.

Over the course of the campaign, Blackpool scored 69 goals with the efforts being split among various players in the team.

The club's top scorer in League Two was Kyle Vassell who found the net on 11 occasions in 34 league matches, while Mark Cullen also contributed well.

Back in League One, Blackpool took their goalscoring touch with them.

The club battled and finished the season in a safe mid-table position, with 12th place being a decent return for the newly-promoted side.

Gary Bowyer's side scored 60 goals in the league that season with Kyle Vassell topping the charts once again.

Despite making just 29 appearances for the club, the striker managed 11 goals which played a key role in the club's performances over the course of the campaign.

It was that record which earned him a move to Championship side Rotherham United at the end of that season.

The 2018-19 season was a minor improvement for Blackpool as they went on to finish 10th in League One.

With Kyle Vassell moving on the goalscoring burden shifted to new arrival Armand Gnanduillet who had just arrived back at the club with a brief flirtation with South African side Baroka.

It was certainly a good season for the towering striker who went on to top the charts.

In 43 appearance Gnanduillet managed 10 goals for the club, a respectable tally given the attacking limitations of the squad at that time.

It was the same man who topped the charts again the following year.

Blackpool's performances on the pitch dropped slightly in 2019-20 with the club finishing the season in 13th position, however for Armand Ganduillet it was a season of improvement.

The striker managed to score an impressive 15 goals in 30 league appearances for the Lancashire side - an incredibly strong tally for a mid-table side.

Unfortunately that would be his last season for the club as he secured a move to Turkish side Altay at the end of his contract at the club.

Last season was undoubtedly a memorable one.

Few would have expected Blackpool to secure promotion but a wonderful campaign in front of goal by one individual really helped the club on their way.

Jerry Yates only arrived at the club in 2020 but enjoyed a great season in front of goal after finding the net 20 times in 44 appearances for the club.

The Seasiders finished the season in third position and went up via the play-offs after an impressive win over Lincoln City at Wembley, meaning that a season in the Championship awaits.
