League One side Blackpool look set to land Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff on loan, according to The Chronicle journalist Lee Ryder on Twitter.
The 19-year-old has come up through the ranks at St James’ Park but has yet to earn a first team appearance for the Magpies – instead he’s been a regular feature in their Under-23 side in recent years.
The midfielder has scored eight goals in 33 games for the Under-23 team but got a taste of league football last term with a loan spell at Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock, in which time he played 17 matches and netted three goals to help the side to an eighth place finish in the top-flight.
Yet it appears that he’s going to get the chance to prove himself in English football next season, as reports on Twitter from journalist Ryder suggest that Gary Bowyer’s Blackpool are close to bringing Longstaff to Bloomfield Road.

The Tangerines achieved promotion back to League One last term after beating Exeter City 2-1 in the play-off final at Wembley, and like with any side going up a division, reinforcements are vital in their quest to stay there.
And although Longstaff has yet to experience English football, they clearly feel that his spell at Kilmarnock and exploits for the Newcastle Under-23s sets him in good stead to help them in their bid to retain their third tier status next term.
And with it highly unlikely that the 19-year-old will get anywhere near the Magpies first team, it’s a move that makes perfect sense for all parties involved.
