League One Blackpool are set to act swiftly to replace outgoing manager Terry McPhillips, with former boss Simon Grayson set to be given the job at Bloomfield Road.

According to Sky Sports, Grayson is set to be confirmed as the Seasiders manager today, a move which would mark a second spell in charge of the club for Grayson.

Blackpool are reeling following the shock decision yesterday of manager McPhillips to make the move away from the club, despite only committing his future to the club in the past few weeks.

The Seaside club, who finished in a healthy mid-table position in League One last term under McPhillips, must now act swiftly under new owner Simon Sadler, who has moved quickly it would appear to try and secure former Preston and Sunderland manager Grayson's return to the club.

Blackpool have been on a steady decline since being relegated from the Premier League and have often been overshadowed by off-field issues surrounding the Oyston family and their ownership.

However, under McPhillips the club seemed to be picking up somewhat, and Sadler will be hoping for a seamless transition if he does indeed manage to secure the appointment of Grayson in the coming days.

The Verdict

This is a solid and smart move from Blackpool, getting someone in who knows the club and what they have been through in the last few years.

Grayson has been harshly treated at times in terms of some of the opinions on him since leaving Sunderland, but he did brilliantly well at Preston North End and Blackpool will hope he can deliver like he did at Deepdale.

Blackpool can get back to the Championship, and having Grayson in charge should only boost that objective going into the 19/20 campaign.
