Shrewsbury Town boss Steve Cotterill has claimed he knows absolutely nothing about a £300k approach from Blackpool for Josh Vela.
It was reported by Football Insider that Vela was a target for Blackpool, who had tabled a £300k bid to lure the 27-year-old back up into the Championship.
Cotterill has shutdown that talk, too, stating to the Shropshire Star: “Where did you get that from? What publication was that? I know absolutely nothing about that, absolutely nothing.
“I have no idea where that’s come from, no idea whatsoever.”
Quiz: Do you remember which player scored Blackpool’s first goal in each of the last 15 seasons?
Neil Critchley’s Blackpool side have endured a tough start to life back in the Championship, posting just two points on the board from their opening four fixtures.
They were also beaten by Sunderland last night in the second round of the League Cup.
Vela has been a regular for Shrewsbury over the last 18 months, making 59 appearances across all competitions. Four defeats on the spin has left Cotterill’s side bottom of League One and amongst the early season strugglers.
Previously in his career, Vela has excelled in the Championship with Bolton Wanderers, as well as having spells with Notts County and Hibernian.
This is quite emphatic from Cotterill when it comes to Vela.
Shrewsbury are obviously struggling at the bottom of League One and the last thing that they need is losing a player of Vela’s quality.
There’s still a week of the transfer window remaining and there might be further interest in Vela around the corner. However, if Cotterill’s comments are anything to go by, nothing feels imminent at a late stage of the window.
