Blackpool have made an offer to Gary Madine as they look to secure the striker's signature, journalist Alan Nixon has reported.

Madine is currently a free agent following his release by Cardiff City earlier this month, and it seems the Seasiders are keen to be the ones to secure his services.

According to Nixon's latest update, the League One side have made the 29-year-old a decent offer, as they seemingly go all out to secure a return to the Championship this season.

Having joined Cardiff from Bolton in January 2017, Madine helped the Welsh side win promotion to the Premier League during his first few months for the club.

But after struggling for game time in the Premier League with the Bluebirds at the start of the 2018/19 campaign, Madine left the club to join Sheffield United on last January, and scored three goals in 16 appearances to help the Blades secure their own promotion to the top-flight that season.

Madine then made nine appearances in all competitions for Cardiff in the first half of the current campaign following the end of his loan to Bramall Lane, but left the club at the start of 2020, having failed to score in the 28 games he played for the club from the Welsh capital in total.

The availability of Madine is something that now appears to have caught the attention of Blackpool, who are currently 13th in the League One standings five points adrift of the play-off places.

The Verdict

It is hard to know how a move such as this might play out were it to happen.

Madine hasn't exactly been prolific in the last few seasons, although you wonder whether that drop down to League One with Blackpool could help him rediscover some form in that respect.

Indeed, Madine's experience in winning promotion - something he has also done at League One level earlier in his career - could be crucial here, and given the size of the offer they appear to be making him, that will surely have to be the case for Blackpool if they are to be to consider this potential signing a success.
