Blackpool are reportedly eyeing up Preston North End goalkeeper Chris Maxwell.

The Tangerines suffered a blow at the start of the month as it has been announced that shot-stopper Jak Alnwick has been forced to have surgery after picking up an arm injury against Accrington Stanley on Boxing Day.

The 26-year-old has been Blackpool's first choice this term, making 23 appearances, and it appears they're now looking for a replacement.

According to reputable journalist Alan Nixon, the League One club are keen on Preston goalkeeper Maxwell.

The 29-year-old is currently on loan with Scottish side Hibernian but has been dropped in recent weeks, which could suggest Blackpool may have some success moving for him.

Maxwell has made 17 appearances in total for Hibs and despite starting regularly between September and December, has not featured since the 15th of December and hasn't been included in the matchday squad for the last three games.

The Welshman has significant experience in League One, having made 92 appearances and kept 25 clean sheets, and so you'd imagine he could settle in the division relatively quickly.

Blackpool are reportedly also interested in Portsmouth keeper Luke McGee.

The Verdict

This is an interesting one for Blackpool.

Things haven't exactly worked out for Maxwell at Hibs and he has found himself seemingly out of consideration in recent weeks, so you feel he may be keen to move back to the North West of England.

The Tangerines appear determined to bring in a replacement for Alnwick and the 29-year-old could fit the bill.

He has experience at both Championship and League One level, so would seem an appropriate stop-gap while Alnwick recovers.
