Blackpool are reportedly interested in a deal to re-sign Everton forward Ellis Simms, according to The Liverpool Echo.
Simms spent the second-half of the 2020/21 season on loan with Neil Critchley’s side, as they clinched promotion back into the Championship, after a timely spell out of the second-tier of English football.
The 20-year-old made a positive impact in his time with the Tangerines, as he scored ten goals, whilst also being on hand to provide two assists in his 24 appearances for Blackpool.
Simms missed Blackpool’s League One play-off final win over Lincoln City at Wembley through injury, and The Liverpool Echo revealed that plans over a move for Simms this summer had been ‘scrapped’ due to that injury problem.
However, this new report has revealed that Critchley’s side are looking at the possibility of signing Simms on a short-term loan deal ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.
It’s also claimed that Everton are in talks with Simms over a new contract at Goodison Park, with his current deal set to expire at the end of this year’s campaign.
Blackpool are set to take on Swansea City in their opening match of the new Championship campaign, in what is likely to be a tough test up against last season’s beaten play-off finalists.
What was the score when Blackpool last played at each of these 24 stadiums?
This could turn out to be an excellent signing by Blackpool.
The Tangerines really impressed me during the 2020/21 season, as they won promotion back into the Championship, whilst under the watchful eye of Neil Critchley.
Simms certainly didn’t look out of place in his first loan spell away from Everton, and he’ll be hoping he can go from strength to strength moving forwards with his development in senior football.
A return to Bloomfield Road could present him with the ideal opportunity to do just that, as Blackpool are now playing their football at a higher level, and I think Simms is more than capable of making the step up to the second-tier this term.
