Blackpool had been targeting a bold move for Oxford United manager Karl Robinson according to Sky Sports.

Robinson has been impressive with the League One side this season, and has guided them to eighth position in the third-tier standings. They're also just a point adrift of the play-off positions, which are certainly still achievable at this stage of the campaign.

Blackpool have been without a permanent manager since they parted company with Simon Grayson at Bloomfield Road earlier this year after a dismal run of results.

However, their reported pursuit of Robinson has been dealt a blow, with BBC Sport revealing that Blackpool's approach for the U's boss has been rejected.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Radio Oxford after their recent win over Accrington Stanley, Robinson admitted that the club haven't spoken to him about the Blackpool vacancy, and stated that he has a good working relationship with everyone at Oxford United.

"Nobody at the football club has spoken to me about anything.

"I think I should have been told if we've had a phone call, but in some ways you've also got to respect the fact that when you look at that we had a game tonight, maybe that's the case.

"We have a good relationship at the football club and we all work hard together, and we're all a very close unit, I just think that I'll get more clarity tonight and tomorrow morning."

Blackpool are next in action this weekend when they take on promotion-chasing Ipswich Town, in what is certain to be a tricky test for the Tangerines.

The Verdict:

I'm really not convinced there is much in this rumour.

Blackpool certainly need to appoint a permanent manager in the near future to give them stability, but I'm not convinced that Robinson would be willing to leave Oxford United anytime soon.

They're currently sat eighth in the League One table, and it would take something special to prize him away from the Kassam Stadium in the near future.

There are better options out there for Blackpool, and if I was them, I would be targeting a move for someone like Nathan Jones who has proven experience in League One.
