Liverpool are planning on sending out young winger Liam Millar to the Championship this summer, according to Goal.
The 21-year-old, who has been capped 11 times by Canada, has made one senior appearance for the Reds in the FA Cup in 2020 and has been on loan to both Kilmarnock and Charlton Athletic in the past few years.
At the Addicks in the 2020-21 campaign, Millar scored three times in League One and added six assists to his tally, and now Liverpool believe he is ready for a second tier move as the next step in his development.
Which clubs could do with making a move for Millar though? The FLW team have identified some outfits that could do with adding Millar to their ranks this summer.
I think there’s a handful of sides that would consider signing him.
I don’t think he’s quite ready to be playing in a promotion-winning side in the Championship, though he’ll want to prove that he is, and I could therefore see him more at a side that was either bottom half last year or has come up from League One.
I think Blackpool could be a good option with the Liverpool connection Neil Critchley has, whilst Blackburn also showed what they can get out of loaning Liverpool players with the success Harvey Elliott had.
Lee Bowyer knows Millar and may want to bring him to Birmingham City whilst I think a club like Hull City could also be an option for him as they make their step up into the Championship.
Quiz: Did each of these 20 midfielders ever score a goal for Huddersfield Town?
Millar is an interesting prospect and one that Liverpool clearly rate given the fact they want to source a Championship club rather than send the forward back to Charlton Athletic.
The 21-year-old only scored twice but he proved to be more creative with six assists. Naturally, Charlton want to get him back, which underlines, again, how highly-rated he is, give Adkins is chasing the League One title.
In terms of which Championship clubs should be taking a look, I’d be looking towards those that finished in the bottom third last season.
Preston seem to have a reasonable link to Liverpool right now, whilst I also think that Huddersfield Town could be a potentially good destination for the forward to develop.
Carlos Corberan needs a little bit more variety in his attack, which Millar provides. He might not be full of goals, but going back to his creativity, it would be useful for Huddersfield.
I’ve got a feeling there will be a fair few takers though.
You’d imagine there could be several second tier clubs keen on a move for Millar.
The 21-year-old showed glimpses of what he’s all about whilst on loan at the Valley last term and he’s bound to have learnt a lot from his stint in south London.
Millar offers creativity and pace from the wing and I could see a team like Reading keeping tabs on his situation at Liverpool.
The Royals have virtually no wingers in their side right now following Sone Aluko’s departure this summer, so bringing in Millar would give Paunovic a good option out wide.
Reading do find themselves in a transfer embargo also so will need to be aiming for low cost deals/loan deals, furthermore making this an attractive option for the Berkshire side.
