Blackpool are weighing up a surprise move for a Scotland and Rangers winger.

Jamie Murphy, who has played much of his football in the EFL, is allegedly being tracked by the Tangerines, according to reports from The Scottish Sun.

The 29-year-old has been out of action for almost a year after a serious cruciate knee injury.

According to the reports, the boyhood Rangers fan is desperate to show Steven Gerrard that he is capable of getting back into the first team fold.

But Blackpool are keeping an eye on him regardless, and hope that they will be able to bring him to League One. Though he will cost a fee, with his contract not expiring for another two seasons.

New Blackpool boss Simon Grayson is allegedly a big fan of Murphy and tried to bring him to Sunderland when he was managing there a few seasons ago.

Murphy featured eight times in all competitions for Rangers last season, before he injured his knee towards the end of August. Before the injury, he had started most of the games for Rangers.

In total, he has played 27 games for the Gers, scoring six goals and assisting an impressive 13 times.

He is no stranger to League One, either, playing 99 times, scoring 17 goals and creating 15 assists.

The Verdict

Murphy would be a fantastic addition to Blackpool, but it's whether Gerrard will let him go.

He has a really impressive record for Rangers, assisting in nearly half of his matches, but unfortunately his nasty injury will have put him down the pecking order.

The club has already signed Ojo this summer, and if they can get Kent back to the club then Murphy might find it tough.

However, Rangers might find him a really useful utility player: he is very versatile and can play on either flank, and is a player who will always put a shift in.
